Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening treatments use a bleaching agent such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to whiten and brighten the teeth safely.

Using a whitening tray to protect the gums, the teeth whitening gel is placed inside of it, and then, depending on the strength of the gel, the patient will wear the tray for an hour or two a day or overnight. The bleaching agent then penetrates the teeth’ enamel and breaks down the discoloured molecules there, leaving them looking brighter and whiter.

Most home-based teeth whitening treatments take two weeks to take effect and need to be worn every day or every night in order to achieve results in this timeframe.

Patients are fitted for their trays here at the practice and then bespoke-made just for you so that you can be sure they will be comfortable and secure when wearing them at home. You’ll then wear them at home, either for a couple of hours a day or overnight for two weeks.

This will depend on the shade of your teeth at the beginning of the treatment and varies from patient to patient.

Results from home-based teeth whitening treatments usually last for up to six months.

To maintain your whiter smile once the treatment is over, there are also teeth whitening serums and toothpaste available, and you can always easily ‘top up’ your treatment in the future using your existing whitening trays.
